When a tracker pays for itself, and when it does not

A north-south single-axis tracker raises output appreciably by spreading generation across the day: the gain comes in the morning and late afternoon, exactly when a fixed array collapses while offices and workshops are still running. At latitudes close to the equator, dual-axis adds only a modest increment for markedly more mechanical complexity.

A tracker is still a machine. It needs row spacing to avoid shading, even ground, a wind stow position, and mechanical maintenance no fixed structure requires. On a site that is hard to reach, those constraints often cancel the gain.

We therefore propose trackers only after comparing them, figures in hand, against the same capacity on fixed structures: in many cases adding modules costs less than moving the ones already there.

Number of axes, expected gain on your site, wind resistance and drive type are set out in the proposal.
